Rudy Gernreich is known for his unorthodox approach to fashion design. His experiments tend to level differences between men and women outfits, privileging the idea of comfort and pushing the boundaries of unisex style. Always careful to new technologies and innovative materials, Gernreich was one of the first stylists to introduce acrylics and plastics in his creations, with never seen before combinations of colors and patterns. Gernreich was able to surprise, sometime scandalize his public, daring to do things that were so simple but so unthinkable at that time: his topless bikini stands as example of his genius, his fabrics with lines and checks pakerns show irreverence for classic and conservative taste. The book is one of the few publications dedicated to Rudy Gernreich and reveals the extraordinary synergy between him, the photographer William Claxton and Peggy Moffitt, model and perfect interpreter of all the joy and playfulness of Gernreich’s creations.
